about

Our Intention Driven Anomalies arose from my desire to explore the complexity and sonic diversity of a Suzuki Omnichord, which was beautifully circuit bent by Ben Houston of Folktek.

I have spent years exploring and experimenting with the Omnichord. With it, I’ve performed in concert halls and art galleries, created soundscores for dance, and brought it into recording sessions. When I try to explain in words what the circuit bent Omnichord is, I realize it would be simpler to let the instrument speak for itself. I find the layers of sounds that one can produce on this instrument so incredible; however, I had no recordings of the Omnichord by itself, so I wanted a recording that showcased the instrument in its purest form. All of the tracks on this album are solo, real-time, single-pass improvisations, meaning there are no overdubs and no special effects, pedals, loops or other tricks.

The result is my attempt at a story that weaves together my diverse history of improvisational practices and the unpredictable alchemy of the Omnichord. My deepest gratitude for the following people, who have contributed to this project by giving me the inspiration and opportunities to develop my ideas on this instrument, whether through collaboration, conversation or both:

Rebecca Bryant, Peter Carpenter, Ray Dillard, Sean Griffin,
Amanda Grunloh, Zaq Kenefick, Clint Koehler, Tim Richards
